Choc-aholics unite!
So, we had the missionaries over for dinner on Friday. And, as everyone knows, you must serve dessert when the missionaries come over. Therefore, on Friday morning, we trooped off to Walmart to get dessert ingredients and came home with a fabulous mix for Turtle Cookie Bars. Sound yummy? They were. Really yummy. So yummy, in fact, that we couldn't wait for the missionaries.
See, the missionaries weren't coming until 6 and the cookie bars were ready at 4, so we had a sampling at snack time. However, I had already cleaned up the table and high chairs and set out the table cloth and I really didn't want to do it all over again. So, I sat the kids down on the kitchen rug and handed them a cookie bar each, fully expecting to sweep, mop and bathe three kids in fifteen minutes time. (Why didn't I just feed them at the table? you are probably wondering.) However, in five minutes the cookie bars were devoured. There wasn't a crumb to be found. Not only were there no crumbs on the floor, but Naomi's face didn't need to be wiped and Emelia cleaned her own hands almost entirely by licking them. (I still wiped her up, lest you think I'm a completely lazy mother!) My kids are usually fairly good eaters (except green stuff) and Emelia, as previously documented, will eat anything. However, there is always a mess to clean up- always. So what made the difference at this particular snack? Chocolate. Apparently being a sweets freak is genetic and my kids got my genes. They were not willing to let even one crumb of chocolatey goodness go to waste. Now I know- when I'm not in the mood to clean up snack, I'll just hand out cookies!
